Healthcare centres and hospitals should ensure efficient management of medical wastes according to existing laws and regulations. The government must also strictly monitor sewage from drug manufacturing plants. Finally, government can do more to monitor contamination of water systems and improve awareness of the issue.

Dr. Ifenna Ilechukwu is a lecturer of Environmental Chemistry, Madonna University, Nigeria. He has been teaching in the Industrial Chemistry Department at the Madonna University, Nigeria, since 2014.
Ifenna has a B.Sc in Applied Biochemistry from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, an M.Sc in Environmental Chemistry and Pollution Control, from the University of Ibadan and a PhD in Environmental Chemistry at the University of Port Harcourt.
