He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of the Witwatersrand and is a columnist for South Africa's The Sunday Independent newspaper. He is the author of Anatomy of the ANC in Power: Insights from Port Elizabeth, 1990 to 2019 (HSRC Press, 2020).
