Today South Africa celebrates the Day of Reconciliation. The date 16 December was chosen by Nelson Mandela and the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission as it has significance for both African and Afrikaner cultures.

It is the day which signifies the end of apartheid and also the beginning of unity and peace as one nation.
