DA volunteer, Leonard Masilo, has continuously raised concerns of blocked sewers overflowing into the homes of residents in Ward 3, Manyatseng Mantsopa.

The half-hearted efforts by the municipality has left sewage, muck and smut riddling the playgrounds, residents’ yards, the roads and stormwater drains. The affected residents, businesses, clinics and the home for the disabled have reported this crisis to Mayor, Mamsie Tsoene, on many occasions. The cries for help have fallen on deaf ears. Only when residents took action, by blocking roads and demanding a response, did they get any reaction.

The absence of the elected ward councillor, led residents to sign a petition for the removal of the ANC ward councillor. The effort is aimed at electing a councillor who will build a trusting relationship with the community and get things done.

The DA will be calling on the SAHRC and the Green Scorpions to intervene and force the municipality to embark on an environmental clean-up process to restore dignity and a healthy living environment to the residents of Mantsopa.
